VOXAPOD menstrual cup is a reusable silicone period cup that collects your flow rather than absorbing it – a modern, sustainable alternative to pads and tampons that can be worn all day and overnight. It folds and inserts like a tampon, forming a gentle seal with your vaginal wall to stop leaks and move with your body. It is non-toxic and there are no fibers to dry you out or leave behind particles. No more dryness, itchy padding, strings, or unnatural odors. It works with your natural lubrication, maintains your pH balance, and can be worn for up to 12 hours at a time. It’s so comfy, you might forget you’re even wearing it.

VOXAPOD is folded and inserted into the vagina, much like a tampon. When inserted correctly, the cup should unfold and create a gentle seal with your vaginal wall preventing leaks and collecting your flow. Our patented cup, with made-to-move technology™, was designed to move comfortably with your body and prevent leaks even while active. When inserted properly, there is no sensation of the cup during use. The cup needs to be emptied at least every 12 hours, but can be worn overnight, during showers/baths, and doesn’t need to be removed to go to the bathroom. Every cup comes with a care guide with step-by-step instructions and some of our favorite tips for first-time cup users.

Periods are stressful enough––worrying about what’s in your period products or how they will perform shouldn’t be on your list. All VOXAPOD™ menstrual cups are manufactured (Certified to ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 13485 medical device) in the United States using 100% FDA-approved, medical-grade silicone. The soft, premium medical-grade silicone used to manufacture VOXAPOD cups is the most biocompatible and the same silicone used for human implantation (not breast implants) by the medical industry.
We consciously and ethically source every part of our supply chain that goes into making VOXAPOD products. In doing so, we don't skimp anywhere if it means compromising quality or comfort. Your wellbeing is at the center of our decision making: we use organic and plant-based ingredients where possible and do not test on animals or use sulfates, phthalates, parabens, or synthetic fragrances. We believe in whole-body wellness and always have your best interest at heart.

VOXAPOD cups have no nasties: no toxins, dyes, natural rubber latex, BPA, sulfate, phthalate, parabens, or plastic. VOXAPOD® is FDA-registered (Food and Drug Administration) and compliant and our cups are made with only the good stuff: non-toxic, hypoallergenic, vegan, cruelty-free, FDA-approved medical-grade silicone with the highest biocompatibility and are safe for human use.
All VOXAPOD menstrual cups are manufactured in the United States at a medical device manufacturing facility that is registered and regulated by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). Our manufacturing facility is ISO 9001:2015 Certified and ISO 13485:2016 Certified (medical device standards), which ensures that VOXAPOD cups are made in compliance with the requirements for continual improvement and customer satisfaction set forth by the International Organization of Standardization.
VOXAPOD® is registered and compliant with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Our registration number is 3015422018.
Sadly, not all menstrual cups adhere to these standards, so be sure to do your homework before making a purchase.
-
If a menstrual cup is too firm, it can be uncomfortable, and if it is too soft, it may leak or make a mess when removing it. VOXAPOD cup is made with thinner and softer cup walls to contour and move with the shape of your body, while the thicker and firmer ribbing is strategically placed to help the cup open, form seal, prevent leaks, and break the seal for a more comfortable and mess-free removal (ribs are aligned with suction holes so when you pinch at the base it breaks the seal at the top of the cup).
Our medium cup is slightly thicker and firmer and designed for those with a heavy flow or that have weaker pelvic floor muscles and might need more resistance to create a good seal and stay put, while our small size cup is slightly softer because of its size and thickness. Most users can use either size cup, but we do recommend our small size for first-time cup users.
-
Yes, VOXAPOD is one of the only menstrual cups in the market that tested prototypes with a diverse focus group of people with active lifestyles, health care workers, designers, athletes, students, and more to receive user feedback that informed our final design. With over 18 months of research and development, we are proud to say VOXAPOD was made to be the most comfortable, leak-proof, and easy-to-use menstrual cup on the market with diverse bodies in mind.
-
VOXAPOD cups are animal cruelty-free and vegan.
-
Always do your research and exercise caution when making a menstrual cup purchase, as there are several menstrual cups available in the market today that are manufactured with questionable and compromising materials and methods. To ensure your VOXAPOD is an authentic original, our logo is embossed on the product. VOXAPOD® is utility patented and protected by the USTPO (United States Trademark and Patent Office).

Yes, VOXAPOD is for anyone with a period and we offer two sizes to fit your body and flow. For the most accurate sizing recommendation, take our menstrual cup quiz. Both sizes work for most bodies, but if you’re unsure, we recommend starting with the small. If you’re not happy after 2-3 cycles, we’ll help you find a better fit or make it right.
-
With proper care, your VOXAPOD cup can last for up to 10 years. The FDA recommends replacing your cup every 2-3 years, and some choose to replace their cup more often because of its personal nature. We recommend that you inspect your cup regularly and replace it with any signs of deterioration.
-
Most users can wear either size of VOXAPOD® cups, however, we've found there are some general guidelines to consider when choosing the best menstrual cup size for you. For the most accurate sizing recommendation, take our menstrual cup size quiz (no email required) or visit our Sizing Guide to learn more.
-
Yes, the CARES Act in 2020 made VOXAPOD menstrual cups and other period care products eligible to be covered by your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) in the United States.
-
To sterilize before your first use and between cycles, fully submerge your VOXAPOD cup in boiling water for 5-7 minutes. Do not leave unattended and be sure there is enough boiling water to keep the cup from sitting directly on the bottom of the pan where it could be damaged. Be careful removing the cup from the boiling water as the contents will be hot and could burn you. If using immediately, run cold water over the menstrual cup to bring it to a comfortable temperature for insertion. Otherwise, allow the cup to cool and completely air-dry before storing.
Do not wash your VOXAPOD cup in the dishwasher, as dishwasher detergents often contain harsh chemicals that can cause irritation or compromise the integrity of the silicone of your cup. -
Rinse your VOXAPOD cup with cold water first (to help prevent discoloration) and then wash it with warm water before and after each use. If using a mild soap or other natural purpose cleaning product that could leave residue, please note that it could cause irritation upon insertion or deteriorate the silicone of your menstrual cup.
If water is not accessible, you may wipe the cup with a clean tissue or just empty and re-insert directly, rinsing at the next opportunity.DO NOT USE bleach, vinegar, tea tree oil, scented soap, oil-based soap, alcohol, hand sanitizer, hydrogen peroxide, antibacterial soap, or other harsh cleaners or chemicals to clean your menstrual cup.
When cleaning your cup, make sure the suction holes are clear and clean. Removing build-up will allow the cup to seal properly. To remove debris, gently stretch each hole under running warm water. You may also flip your cup inside out to better clean the inside of your cup––the silicone is durable and will not be ‘stretched out’ or damaged by doing so.
Always use safe-to-drink, potable, clean water to clean your VOXAPOD cup. -
After the cup is inserted, it forms a seal with the vaginal wall beneath the cervix, so that menstrual fluid being released through the cervix is collected inside the cup. The outside of the cup will typically be coated in your natural lubrication, making it easier to remove, empty, and re-insert. If the cup is inserted after your period has already started, there may be some blood on the outside of the cup from your flow.
If properly inserted and removed, fluid of any kind should be minimal. There is a learning curve for most users, in the beginning, that may require practice to ensure that your cup is properly sealed upon insertion to prevent leaks. You can use a backup liner, pad or period underwear until you get the hang of it. -
Keep in mind that most users can wear their VOXAPOD cup for up to 12 hours so rarely, if ever, need to change their menstrual cup in a public bathroom.
If you do need to empty your cup in a public bathroom, it’s no problem. Wash your hands before heading into the stall. Carefully remove your cup, empty the contents into the toilet, wipe the cup with a clean tissue, gentle wipe, or wet paper towel that you bring into the stall with you, or rinse your cup with water from a water bottle or our On-the-go Collapsible Cleaning Cup that works like a portable sink and conveniently fits in your pocket or handbag. Once wiped down or rinsed, re-insert your cup. It's pretty simple. Just mind the lubrication on the outside of your cup, which can make it a bit slippery. You can wash your cup more thoroughly at your next convenience or when you’re back at home.
For more great tips, read how to clean your menstrual cup in a public bathroom. -
Once your VOXAPOD cup is properly cleaned and dry, it can be stored in its original storage container or another clean, breathable container. Do not store your cup in an airtight container.
-
It’s not uncommon for menstrual cups to discolor over time with use for various reasons. Mild to moderate discoloration does not impact the performance of your VOXAPOD cup. We recommend that you regularly inspect your menstrual cup and replace it if there are signs of deterioration.
To prevent and remove stains:
- Rinse your cup with cold water before washing it with mild soap and warm water to help prevent stains from setting in
- Use VOXAPOD cup wash on a regular basis (New product coming soon!)
- Follow the cleaning instructions in your VOXAPOD care guide
- Do not wear your cup for longer than the recommended amount of time
- Scrub your cup with a cleaning toothbrush or washcloth
- Give your cup a sunbath by setting it in direct sunlight inside for several hours allowing it to naturally ‘bleach’ the stains
- Make a paste with baking soda and water and gently scrub your cup with it, sterlizing it afterward, before next use
- Use our colored menstrual cup (New product coming soon!)
We do not recommend using alcohol or harsh cleaning chemicals as they could deteriorate and compromise the quality of the silicone.
-
With proper care and cleaning, your VOXAPOD cup should remain odorless. If your cup develops an unusual odor, this could be the result of using a harsh cleaner, in which case the integrity of the silicone may have been compromised and your cup should be replaced. If you experience other unnatural or foul odors, unrelated to your menstrual cup, it could be a sign of an infection and you should consult with your physician.
While using pads can sometimes be smelly because menstrual flow begins to grow bacteria on the surface of the pad once it is outside of your body, using a menstrual cup maintains your natural pH balance and smells natural or odorless––it is one of the biggest benefits of switching to a menstrual cup!

Nope. No worries on this one. Your vagina is not a black hole that leads to the great unknown; it is a muscular tube about 4-5 inches deep that has an opening and an end. VOXAPOD period cup is inserted just inside the opening of the vagina and forms a gentle seal with your vaginal wall to hold in place while you wear it. Whew!
There can be a learning curve to using a menstrual cup, and it can take a few cycles before you really get the hang of inserting and removing your cup. With practice, most users figure out the best fold and position to insert and remove their cup and often describe finding a placement (‘sweet spot’) in their vaginal canal that feels the most comfortable to them.
Tip: Relaxing is key to inserting and removing your menstrual cup. If you’re not relaxed, your vaginal muscles probably aren’t either, which can potentially make removal more difficult, so remember to relax and take your time to learn how the cup works with your body and what techniques work best for you. You can practice at home, in the shower, or on the weekends and use a backup liner or period underwear until you get the hang of it.
-
VOXAPOD cup is folded and inserted into the vagina, much like a tampon. There are different folds you can use to insert your cup. Regardless of which fold you prefer, this can take some practice to learn what works best for you and at which angle inserting is the easiest. The cup should remain folded until all the way inside of your vagina, at which point releasing your grip will allow the cup to unfold and form a gentle seal with the vaginal wall to prevent leaks.
Most first-time users need 2-3 full cycles using their menstrual cup to get familiar with their own vaginal shape and to sort out which insertion method and technique works best for their body.
Tip: Try running your cup under warm water and inserting it wet, or practice insertion and removal in the shower to help you relax and keep things clean and comfy. -
There are three common folds that you can use to insert your VOXAPOD cup. We recommend practicing all of the folding methods to find out which method works best for you. Be sure to keep your cup folded until it is completely inside of your vagina.
-
Your menstrual cup should be positioned completely inside the vagina below your cervix in order to ‘catch’ your flow. The positioning varies slightly depending on how high or low your cervix is and how curved or straight your vaginal canal is. After practicing for 2-3 cycles, you’ll figure out where your ‘sweet spot’ is for positioning your cup.
When VOXAPOD cup is inserted correctly, you should have a leak-free experience and have no sensation of the cup. This can take practice for some, so be patient with yourself and remember to relax your vaginal muscles when inserting and removing.
Tip: You may ‘spot’ from the menstrual fluid that is already in the vaginal canal prior to insertion, which is not an indicator that you inserted the cup wrong or that the cup is leaking. While learning to use a cup, it can be helpful to wear a liner, pad, or period underwear as backup and reassurance.
-
Learning to insert your cup with ease can take practice. The most important thing to remember is to relax your pelvic muscles. You may need to try different folding methodsand angles or different body positions when inserting your cup to find a method that works best for your body: sitting on the toilet, propping one leg up on the side of the toilet or bathtub, stand with knees slightly bent, or in the shower with one leg up on the side of the shower wall. If you don’t get it right away, take a break and come back to it later rather than irritating your vulva (the delicate skin around your vaginal opening).
Most users require 2-3 cycles to figure out what positioning method for insertion works best for them. Stick with it, the payoff is huge and so worth it!
Tip: Try running your cup under warm water and inserting it wet, or practice insertion and removal in the shower to help you relax and keep things clean and comfy.
-
It may seem contradictory, but your body actually produces less lubrication during your period, so we recommend wetting your cup with warm water to soften the silicone and make insertion more comfortable. When first learning to use a cup, practicing in the shower can help you relax and keep things more clean and comfy. You can also use a water-based lubricant, but we do not recommend using other lubricants as they may compromise the silicone of your VOXAPOD cup.
-
VOXAPOD cup can be worn leak-free for up to 12 hours. Most periods consist of 2 Tablespoons to ½ cup of menstrual fluid (including clots) per cycle, with the average being 2-3 tablespoons per cycle. That means you will empty your cup based on how heavy your flow is, which will vary from person to person and whether it is a 'heavy' day or 'light' day. Most users can empty their cup once in the morning before starting their day and again before bed.
Your cup should be emptied at least twice during a 24 hour period. Empty your cup more frequently on your heavy flow days, and be sure not to let your cup overflow during use. Most users have a slight sensation and can tell when their cup is full and needs to be emptied, others never fill their cup in a 12 hour period. No need to empty your cup when you pee or poop unless you want to.
-
VOXAPOD can be worn for up to 12 consecutive hours and overnight. After a few cycles with your period cup, you will figure out how frequently to empty your cup at various points in your cycle.
-
To remove your VOXAPOD cup, you need to break the suction by pinching the base of the cup. Do not try to remove the cup by pulling the stem alone. Use the stem to wiggle the cup to a point where you can pinch the base of the cup to release the suction seal of the cup. Most importantly, relax your vaginal muscles, and while holding the base grips, gently pull the cup from your vagina, gently wiggling it back and forth, if necessary. Remove at an angle to avoid spilling the contents of the cup.
Note: If you find it difficult to reach your menstrual cup, relax and use your vaginal muscles in a series of gentle, downward pushes to help move the cup to where it can be easily reached. Position yourself on the toilet or in a slight squatting position if necessary, relaxing your pelvic muscles to allow the cup to move towards the vaginal opening. If you have further concerns, please seek medical advice from a physician.
-
You can wear your VOXAPOD cup for up to 12 consecutive hours, but may find you need to empty it more frequently depending on your menstrual flow. We recommend you empty and clean your VOXAPOD cup at least 2-3 times in a 24-hour period. Empty your cup more frequently on your heavy flow days. It’s not necessary to empty your cup when you pee or poop unless you want to. After a few cycles with your cup, you will know how frequently and when to empty your cup throughout your period.
-
Yes, unlike tampons and pads, VOXAPOD cup ‘catches’ your clots and flow, rather than absorbing them. Many users with clots and heavy flows find VOXAPOD cup more effective than pads and tampons and feel more clean and dry during their period as well. If you have a really heavy flow or pass a lot of clots, we recommend our medium-size cup which has a higher capacity. You may still find that you need to empty it more frequently on your heavy flow days, but still far less frequently than you would with a pad or tampon.
-
When properly inserted, you should not be able to feel your menstrual cup. Your VOXAPOD cup should be inserted above your pubic bone and completely beneath your cervix. Some users wear their cup higher or lower inside of their vaginal canal depending on their cervix height and what is most comfortable for them.
If you are experiencing pressure on your bladder when wearing your VOXAPOD cup, you may need the smaller size cup. You can email us at hello@voxapod.com for help with sizing.
-
The stem is worn completely inside of your vagina, unlike a tampon string that stays outside of your body. Most users cannot feel it at all and some will have a very slight sensation from it depending on how far they insert their cup. The VOXAPOD cup stem is soft and flexible to prevent irritation or chaffing––it is designed to give you all-day comfort.
-
You can trim or remove the stem of your VOXAPOD cup based on your personal preference. The purpose of the stem is to help you reach the base of your cup for removal. If you experience protrusion or discomfort from your stem because you have a lower cervix, you can remove or trim it to the desired length. We recommend using your cup for a full cycle or two before trimming your stem, and it likely goes without saying, but never attempt to trim the stem of your cup while in use.
Never use the stem alone to remove your cup. Before removing your cup, you must first break the suction of your cup by pinching the grips at the base.
-
VOXAPOD cup is a patented compact design that works well for a low or high cervix. It is one of the shortest cups on the market, making it ideal for someone with a low cervix. VOXAPOD cup measurements can be found on our Sizing Guide page.
-
You do not need to remove your VOXAPOD cup to go to the bathroom. However, some users––especially those with weaker pelvic floor muscles or bladder sensitivities––may prefer to remove their menstrual cup before going to the bathroom. It is really a personal preference.
-
Unlike tampons, VOXAPOD cup is held in place by a gentle suction seal that forms when you insert the cup in your vagina so it should remain in place even when your pelvic floor muscles move or contract during a sneeze or cough. You must break the suction seal by pinching at the base of the cup before removing it.
-
With the right size and when inserted properly, you should not experience leaks. However, leaks can happen for a lot of reasons when you’re first learning how to use a menstrual cup, but don’t worry, we’ve got some great tips to help you fix it and get you to a leak-free period!
- Try emptying your cup more frequently, especially on heavy flow days
- The cervix is often not located straight up, so inserting the cup angled toward your tailbone (lower back) can help the cup to fully open in a position that prevents leaks
- Allow the cup to open lower in the vaginal canal and then use your fingers to push it up into place. Sometimes when a cup is inserted completely before it opens, the cervix is in the way of allowing the rim to expand which causes leaks
- After inserting the cup, wipe the stem and base of the cup as best as you can––this will eliminate any excess blood coating the cup to leave traces on your underwear
- Insert a finger to check the rim of the cup is fully expanded to form a proper seal––make sure the rim isn’t sitting partially on the cervix and/or that the cup didn't push the cervix to the side
- Gently tug on the stem of the cup to make sure the cup has created a proper seal. If the cup stays in place, you have a good seal. If it slides down easily, you can pinch the base a few times or spin the base of the cup to help the cup fully open. You may also place one finger on the base of the cup to hold it in place and gently bear down to help the cup fully open. If none of those work, you should remove the cup and re-insert it differently for a better seal.
- Try different folds when inserting. If you’ve used a different cup before VOXAPOD, you may find using a different fold does the trick for a leak-proof seal. Some users have better luck with the Punch Down Fold, when they may have previously used a C-Fold, etc.
- If you’re leaking because your cup is overflowing in a short amount of time, you likely need the larger size VOXAPOD cup. Email us for help in getting the right fit at hello@voxapod.com

Yes! No more tucking tampon strings in your swimsuit bottoms! VOXAPOD cup forms a gentle seal with your vaginal wall and contains your menstrual fluid inside of the cup instead of absorbing it. Unlike with a tampon, you don’t have to worry about leaks or absorbing pool/lake water. You can swim, shower, soak, surf, or float in the waters of the Polynesian Islands worry free.

The rounded base and flexible stem prevent poking and chaffing, giving you all-day comfort to keep up with your lifestyle demands, whether it's running meetings all day, chasing kids, intense athletic training, military service, peace corps work, adventure travel, or a day hiking in the woods. We got your back(side).
-
Yes, many users practice yoga and inversions while using their menstrual cup. However, some prefer not to invert their body while menstruating as a personal choice. It’s your body, you call the shots.
-
The uterus and cervix actively work to expel menstrual fluid out of your body. The blood flows into the vagina and then the menstrual cup through the tiny hole in the cervix. It is unlikely for the blood to flow back into your uterus – even if you're upside down.
-
The VOXAPOD cup is worn low at the base of the vagina and away from the cervix, which means that it should not interfere with an internal birth control device. However, please use caution when using any internal period care product with an IUD, as there is a possibility that the IUD can be dislodged, depending on how recently your IUD was implanted. As with any gynecological concerns, please consult with your health care provider prior to using any kind of internal period care product, including a menstrual cup.
While the risk of early IUD expulsion due to menstrual cup use is a possibility, there is no evidence that demonstrates that those who use a menstrual cup for period management have a higher rate of early IUD expulsion, according to this study from US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health (NCBI) where nearly 750 women participated.
If using a menstrual cup and IUD, be sure to follow the instructions in your VOXAPOD care guide and always break the suction seal of your VOXAPOD cup before removing it. Many of our VOXAPOD customers use an IUD or NuvaRing® simultaneously, but we recommend that you consult with your health care provider and familiarize yourself with your birth control device’s benefits and risks, such as IUD expulsion, etc. -
Everyone’s body is different, so what works for one, may not work for another. Users with a Retroverted or “Tilted” uterus have successfully used VOXAPOD cup. Users with a severely ‘tilted’ uterus may need to practice over a few menstrual cycles to see which angle and method of insertion work best for them.
When VOXAPOD is inserted correctly, it should not cause discomfort. If the cup is inserted too deep into the vaginal canal and positioned in contact with the cervix, it can cause discomfort or cramping. For optimal comfort, your VOXAPOD should be positioned beneath the cervix.
If you have questions or concerns, please consult with your physician. -
VOXAPOD cup should only be used for period care protection and should always be removed prior to sexual intercourse. It should not be used as a form of birth control and will not protect you from Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).
-
Yes, VOXAPOD cups can be worn safely by anyone with a period if they are comfortable inserting and removing a product that is worn internally. In both cases, we recommend starting with our small size, which is one of the most compact cups on the market.
-
VOXAPOD cup is hypoallergenic and made with premium FDA-approved, medical-grade silicone. The healthcare industry has used medical-grade silicone for decades because of its biocompatibility with the human body. The VOXAPOD cup is non-toxic and free from Bisphenol-A (BPA), natural rubber latex, dyes, sulfate, phthalate, and parabens. If you experience sensitivity or discomfort when using your cup, discontinue use immediately and consult with your physician.
-
VOXAPOD cup should only be used for period care protection, it should not be worn for pregnancy discharge or postnatal bleeding or for any other purposes. Consult with your physician on how soon after pregnancy you can resume use of a menstrual cup or internally-worn period care.
-
Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) is a complication of bacterial infections that is often associated with using tampons but it can be caused outside of the use of tampons. In fact, 50% of cases are non-menstrual related and 25% are found in men. A person needs to be a carrier of a specific strain of staph bacteria (staphylococcus aureus) in their body to contract TSS. In which case, the staph can multiply in, for example, a tampon’s absorbent fibers but also in an unhealed wound, producing a harmful toxin.
A menstrual cup collects your menstrual flow, rather than absorbing it, like pads and tampons. When your cup is sealed in your vaginal canal, minimal to no oxygen is able to reach the collected flow so bacteria is not allowed to grow, as it would be on the surface of a pad or, possibly even, a tampon. It also means that your natural vaginal fluids will not be absorbed by the cup, allowing you to maintain your natural pH level while eliminating irritation and dryness.
Nevertheless, if you have the specific strain of staph bacteria in your vaginal flora, there is still a minimal risk of TSS, which is why we always recommend you wash your hands before handling your menstrual cup, empty and clean your cup every 8-12 hours, and sterilize your cup between periods.
Be aware of the symptoms of TSS to catch it early for treatment: sudden fever, dizziness, vomiting, diarrhea, fainting, a rash that looks like a sunburn, or in advanced stages, scaly skin. TSS can appear during your period or in the days to follow. If you experience any of the symptoms, remove your cup and seek medical advice immediately. Do not use a menstrual cup or any internal vaginal devices if you have been previously diagnosed with TSS.
If you have more questions concerning TSS, please contact your health care provider. -
If you have a vaginal infection or are experiencing discomfort, discontinue use of your VOXAPOD cup immediately and consult with your physician. There are no known increased risks of infections with the use of a menstrual cup.
VOXAPOD should be used only for period care protection, it should not be worn for postnatal bleeding or for any other purposes.
